Abbey Road looks to AMS Neve for latest console

London’s Abbey Road studios has selected AMS Neve to supply its latest recording console.

The 60-channel Neve 88RS analogue console replaces an older model supplied by AMS Neve over 20 years ago.

AMS Neve has a longstanding link with Abbey Road after managing director Mark Crabtree took a sample of his first ever product there 33 years ago.

Crabtree said: “I took a day off work and drove to London with my business partner and our wives, determined to show Paul McCartney our prototype.”

Thankfully, McCartney was at the studios and was sufficiently impressed to order one.

Crabtree addedd: “We’re thrilled Abbey Road chose the Neve 88RS for Studio Two – it’s proof our products are the world’s best for sound quality and longevity.”

Jonathan Smith, Abbey Road studio manager, commented: “Abbey Road has always invested in the best cutting edge technology to optimise the sound of our wonderful rooms – we are delighted to have installed the finest analogue console in the world’s most famous and iconic studio.”

The 88RS console has most recently been used for the latest series of Live From Abbey Road, featuring artists such as Blondie, Noah and the Whale, Kaiser Chiefs, Lykke Li, Rumer and Brandon Flowers.
