AES audio restoration conference kicks off in Virginia today

The AES’s sold-out conference on Audio Archiving, Preservation & Restoration kicks off today at the Library of Congress National Audio-Visual Conservation Center (NAVCC) Packard Campus in Culpeper, Virginia, running through until Saturday.

For the event, the AES and Library of Congress are fielding a variety of experts representing corporate and national archivists, media companies, libraries, historical societies, labs, post-production professionals, universities and more. They expect attendees will see every facet of the archiving industry while being part of a forum to address the best ways to preserve and provide access to heritage digital and analog media formats.

The conference will feature a wide range of presentations, academic papers and panel discussions focused on the latest strategies and technologies for protecting audio assets as the industry rapidly evolves.

Greg Parkin, vice president, North America from conference sponsor Iron Mountain Entertainment Services, said: “AES continues to bring important issues to the forefront, and this conference is a perfect example by addressing best practices in archiving, preservation, restoration and the transfer of film and audio. Working closely with AES and other organisations like the producers and engineers wing of the recording academy, who also share our vision relevant to the preservation and archiving of their most valued works, is monumentally important to our clients and all attendees of this conference. We are glad to lend our knowledge and expertise to this critical topic.”
