Atmos-phere at Pinewood

The Pinewood Group’s mixing theatres at Pinewood and Shepperton Studios are to become the first facilities in the UK to be fitted with Dolby’s new Atmos audio platform. Pinewood’s Powell Theatre has just reopened after a complete refurbishment and installation and Shepperton’s Korda Theatre is set to follow in January 2013. In December the Pinewood Post team is expected to start work on one of the first films to utilise a Dolby Atmos soundtrack from the UK. Giles Farley, Managing Director of Pinewood Post Production, said: “Pinewood Studios is constantly looking to stay ahead of the game and invest in its facilities and our Post Production department is no exception. Dolby Atmos will provide our clients with the very latest in cutting edge sound technology and that’s an exciting thing to be a part of. To be the first facilities in the UK and one of the first in the world to have this new system speaks volumes about Pinewood Post’s position in the global film industry."

Julian Pinn, Director of Cinema Marketing (EMEA) for Dolby Laboratories, said: “Pinewood and Shepperton Studios are truly iconic and known all over the world – it is exciting to see that they will be the first studio facilities in the UK to have installed Dolby Atmos. Pinewood’s award winning mixers have been some of the first to embrace the new system and we can’t wait for audiences to hear the results of their efforts.”

The Pinewood Post Production team is officially launching the newly fitted Powell Theatre on 22 November, 2012, and ‘hopes to welcome clients from across the industry to road test the system.’
