Audio Media January Digital Edition out now

A New Year, a new issue.

While 2013 saw a lot of changes to Audio Media, both aesthetically and editorially, 2014 will see us continue to grow and adapt to this dynamic industry we’re in. Getting things started in the right way, our January issue is now available for download.

This month we leave the studio and post worlds behind for a moment to head to the live stage where Jim Evans explores the current state of live performance technology and techniques, speaking to everyone from live sound engineers to manufacturers about what the current production expectations are.

John Broomhall catches up with Kenny Young, audio director/composer at Media Molecule, about the sound of the developer’s latest PS Vita venture, Tearaway.

Jake Young made a trip to a studio on a ship in London’s docklands where he met with producer/engineer Ben Phillips who spent two years converting a decommissioned 1939 lightship into a fully loaded commercial studio called Lightship95

Also in this issue, Broadcast Audio specialist Will Strauss talks to three of the top drama dubbing mixers about audio post for shows like Downtown Abbey, The Bible, and Sherlock.

Our expanded January tech focus provides an overview of the current offering for studio monitors, with a preface on how to choose your monitors by Funky Junk’s Mark Thompson.

All this plus an interview with Kon-Tiki sound designer Tormod Ringnes, a feature on the Scandinavian pro audio industry, an in-depth preview of this year’s ISE show, and an interview with multi-platinum selling producer and songwriter Jake Gosling.

As always, the January issue of Audio Media is loaded full of informative reviews including a thorough rundown of SSL’s new Live console, Focusrite’s new Red 1 500 preamp, the Allen & Heath Qu-16 compact digital mixer, Lewitt’s LCT 940 tube and FET condenser mic, and the Electro-Voice ZLX-12P powered loudspeaker.
