BVE 2012: Sony Professional expands wireless microphone range

Sony Professional has launched two new microphones for the live production and entry-level markets at the BVE 2012 show.

The ECM-FT5 lavalier microphone and the ECM-MS2 short stereo microphone were both introduced at the London show as the company expands its range of DWX digital wireless microphones for location and studio recording.

Sony’s ECM-MS2 XLR stereo microphone is designed for entry-level applications and is compatible with a range of camcorders from across the XDCAM, NXCAM and HDV ranges.

The ECM-FT5 lavalier microphone comes in two versions to fit into existing audio solutions – a BC version for use with DWX series products, and a BMP version for use with UWP series products – and features a flat design, which is intended to conceal its position as well as a moisture resistant metal body.

Having been used on BBC’s Apprentice and Junior Apprentice, Sony recently announced that its DWX digital wireless audio microphones are fully compliant with Channel 38 frequency range. Furthermore, both microphones will also use the WiDIF-HP codec, which is designed to combine the qualities of analogue with the time and cost efficiency of an all-digital architecture.

Markus Warlich, Sony Professional audio product specialist, commented:` “The launch of Sony’s ECM microphones reflects our commitment to providing solutions for a wide range of budgets and applications. Sony’s DWX and UWP digital audio solutions are being used by major broadcasters and on large scale high-profile productions and are now within the budgets of smaller production companies and camera operators.”
