Digico rocks KROQ

Digico’s SD8 console took care of FOH, monitor and on-air broadcast for the KROQ stage at this year’s Coachella Music and Arts festival.

For the second year in a row, rock radio station KROQ rented a house, merely yards away from the main stage at Coachella. Over the course of the three-day festival, the KROQ Coachella House stage hosted a number of live mini-sets and interviews, with four-five bands playing daily. These ranged from Arcade Fire and Interpol, to The Black Keys and Flogging Molly.

The Digico SD8, supplied by Broadcast Support, handled FOH, monitor and on-air broadcast for several hundred thousand listening fans, as well as providing distinct mixes for the webcast and backup recordings.

Scott Ramsay, Broadcast Support’s founder and president, has worked with KROQ for over three decades, and provided services for the inaugural Coachella House at last year’s festival. He decided upon the SD8 for the gig for a number of reasons. “I was familiar with the SD8’s reputation, but hadn’t actually had a hands-on experience with the console. I knew that Digico made extremely intuitive and simply great-sounding consoles, and with the SD8’s massive onboard digital processing and control available in an easy-to-operate package was the deciding factor for me.”

He added: “The onboard package is phenomenal, and I get everything I want and more. I laugh every time I walk by my wall of now-retired outboard processors. I will never lug around tons of that crap again.”
