Genelec updates GLM software

Genelec has unveiled its latest GLM 2.0 software, a loudspeaker management system for Genelec Smart Active Monitor (SAM) systems.

Available for Mac (Mavericks / Yosemite) and Windows PC, GLM 2.0 provides control to every aspect of any Genelec SAM product that is connected on the Genelec network. Together, up to 30 SAM Series monitors and subwoofers can be controlled in one room.

This latest GLM 2.0 software version introduces a new user interface, designed to simplify the setup and calibration process. GLM 2.0 adopts a graphical approach to monitor placement in the room and system settings. The software allows for repeatable performance, reducing perceived differences between listening environments or positions, and allowing a monitor to be turned into the reference it needs to be for the challenging and complex tasks encountered by engineers today.

In operation, GLM 2.0 first allows the user to define the monitor location in the room, assign inputs for either analogue or digital audio, and then establish an association of monitors into groups. Once defined, the user is then guided to calibrate the group of monitors using GLM AutoCal, Genelec’s proprietary state-of-the-art automated measurement, analysis and calibration system. Using a factory-calibrated Genelec 8300A acoustic measurement microphone and Genelec Network Adapter (GLM 2.0 User Kit), GLM AutoCal provides calibration of levels, distance-compensating delays, and equalisation for room response compensation. Subwoofer crossover phase is set for all subwoofers on the network as well. Each Group has also its own AutoCal calibration file.

“In order to get reference performance out of a monitor it needs to be acoustically calibrated in the room it’s being used in. Our GLM system with its AutoCal feature puts this capability in the hands of the user. AutoCal in particular contains more than 35 years of experience in the calibration of monitors,” said Lars-Olof Janflod, marketing and PR director at Genelec. “Our latest software has had an enthusiastic reception from the pro audio community during the testing phase, and we are excited to unveil the finished version. GLM 2.0 builds on the previous software offering, making the setup process even easier to ensure precision audio performance every time, regardless of environment. It comes highly recommended to all users.”

All monitoring system calibration parameters can also be saved in an unlimited number of system setup files, or stored in each individual monitor and subwoofer if the GLM network needs to be disconnected.

The GLM 2.0 Acoustic Response Editor provides a graphical display of the measured response, filter compensation and the resulting system response for each monitor, with full manual control of all acoustic settings should the user so require. SinglePoint and MultiPoint microphone positions provide measurements for one, two or three person mixing environments.

In addition, GLM 2.0 features various volume control functions either via the software GLM Master fader or via external wired or wireless volume controllers. On-screen, real-time SPL of the active group is available when the calibration microphone is connected to the Network Adaptor as well.

Together with the GLM 2.0 release Genelec is offering a GLM 2.0 trade-in programme available until December 31, 2015 for those customers who are currently running earlier GLM 1.0 to 1.5 software versions.

These users are invited to return their complete GLM 1.0 to 1.5 User Kit, consisting of the Network Interface Device (types 8200-416 and 8200-416B) and measurement microphone (type 8200A) to their local authorised Genelec distributor. In exchange, they can purchase a completely new GLM 2.0 User Kit at a discounted price. For further details on the GLM 2.0 Trade-in Program, please contact your local Genelec authorised distributor.
