IBC 2013: Calrec debuting Callisto broadcast desk

Calrec Audio will launch Callisto, a new console for live broadcasters at IBC 2013 (stand 8.C58).

Callisto was created for broadcast professionals looking to produce broadcast audio easily, and for those who don’t need as many resources as the company’s Apollo and Artemis consoles.

The system keeps components and materials to a minimum, and due to disciplined power distribution, Callisto is around 30 per cent more efficient than the Artemis Light console. Service access is from the front of the desk, while the whole control surface can be replaced by removing just 12 screws.

During the design phase, Calrec focused on ensuring that Callisto’s GUI would be suitable for a wide range of operator levels. Users control the system through a 17-inch multitouch screen with straightforward interface and high-res display.

According to Calrec, Callisto simplifies complex workflow tasks, such as mix-minus feed creation, with common procedures. The console’s other large displays are fully configurable to display bus, output, and loudness meters, and include dedicated metering, routing, and processing information for every fader.

Callisto’s physical control surface is available in fixed 32- and 44-fader versions with streamlined layout. Each channel strip features only the most essential mechanical controls – fader, two flexible control cells, and dedicated gain pot. The device also has Calrec’s Bluefin2 technology at its core, and the same integral 8192 x 8192 Hydra2 router as Apollo and Artemis.

Complete system redundancy, dedicated delay on all paths with additional assignable input and output delay, mechanical PFL overpress on all faders and three 5.1 studio monitor outputs are also part of the broadcast-focused feature set.

"We’ve designed Callisto to keep the user interface simple and straightforward," said Henry Goodman, Calrec’s head of sales. "Throughout the design process, we’ve kept the focus not just on features and capabilities, but on the totality of the user experience. The result is the elegant console we’re introducing this week at IBC."

IBC 2013 takes place at Amsterdam RAI from September 12th to 17th 2013, with the exhibition running from September 13th to 17th.
