IBC Cancelled: No Amsterdam Event Amidst Escalating COVID Concerns

IBC today annoucned that the in person IBC2021 event has been cancelled less than two weeks before the convention was due to start.

The move follows growing concerns about the COVID-19 situation in The Netherlands, which has deteriorated over the past week, and “feedback from the IBC exhibitor and visitor community”.

The IBC Partnership Board made the decision today in order to prevent exhibitors and visitors from travelling to The Netherlands. Amsterdam had seen new restrictions but the convention was allowed to continue so IBC has made the decision as concern spreads about the COVID-19 situation in Amsterdam but also in other European cities.

Due to take place on December 3-6 at The RAI in Amsterdam, IBC20201 will now focus on bringing the content and technology community together via IBC Digital.

Pro audio PR agency Starscream Communications (Focusrite, IsoAcoustics, Klipsch) had booked to attend to meet clients, media and host new business meetings. “The cancellation is a shame but the right one in our opinion. It does, however, prove a challenge to the industry around how brands launch products and it’s made worse as Winter NAMM has also been cancelled. Our digital outreach is always good but we’re aware that much of the industry has yet to make the shift and rely on conventions as their key marketing points throughout the year.”
