KLANG:technologies debuts KOS 3.1 update at InfoComm 2018

3D in-ear mixing system manufacturer KLANG:technologies has launched an update of its KOS 3 operating system at Infocomm 2018.

The 3.1 update of KLANG’s OS version includes a MIDI translator tool. This provides an MCU (Mackie Control Universal) protocol integration, which allows engineers to connect one or more MIDI MCU-compatible fader controllers to the company’s KLANG:app for better mix control.

Ideal for monitor engineers that want to dial into musicians’ mixes from a hardware-based controller, the new integration provides facilities for Mute and Solo buttons, Channel labels, Bank Select and Snapshot control, in addition to bi-directional fader control.

“Many elite monitor engineers have found that binaural processing opens up new levels of quality in their mixes, but, until now, this required them to work with a touchscreen-based workflow,” commented Dr. Pascal Dietrich, KLANG:technologies’ founder and marketing director. “Some engineers prefer to rely on haptic faders instead of a touch fader interface when it comes to critical mixing; they want to keep their eyes on their artists rather than look at a touchscreen. With MIDI MCU integration, we can now offer that functionality – either out of an MCU-enabled mixing console, or with a dedicated fader controller. Additionally, musicians can also benefit and connect a haptic controller to their KLANG:app.”

Furthermore, KOS 3.1 permits the daisy chaining of KLANG:fabrik and/or KLANG:vier devices into a hive of units functioning as a larger and more powerful system. In this configuration, engineers can move between various artists’ mixes within the cascade via the top mix bar, as well as create, save and recall snapshots and presets on all units in the setup simultaneously.

The newest OS version also increases the available channel count when working with EQs. The update is accompanied by a new Dante Firmware release for the new master cue routing, which now makes all KLANG products Dante Domain Manager (DDM) ready.
