May Digital Edition available now

Welcome to the May issue of Audio Media. This month we are celebrating all things to do with the changing of seasons and the rebirth, renewal, and change that spring inevitably brings.

On the topic of change, in our main feature this month we sit down with Grammy and Brit award-winning producer and songwriter Steve Levine to talk about his recent move to Liverpool, the importance of industry groups like the MPG, and of course, his work with Culture Club.

Looking at renewal, we got the opportunity to go behind-the-scenes at the recently refurbished Powerplay Studio in Switzerland and picked the brain of chief engineer Reto Muggli about working with artists ranging from Prince to Wu-Tang Clan.

In the broadcast sector, video is going through a massive change with the adoption of 4k, but what about audio? We talked to BBC R&D media technologist Tony Churnside to find out what might be next for broadcast audio.

We also chat with one man who has consistently changed the face of pro audio, Steven Slate, to find out about what he thinks of the current state of the industry and what’s next from his companies.

Spring is also a time to get out an about and this month we report back from the inaugural Brighton Music Conference, NAB in Las Vegas, and even got to take in Broken Bells at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire.

For our technology focus, we’ve cast our eyes at the studio microphone market to round up the top offerings from 15 manufacturers.

And as always, the May issue is loaded full of real work reviews, this month featuring Prism Sound’s Lyra 2 and Titan, the Schoeps V4, Genelec’s new 8010 monitors, the Moog Analog Delay and Ladder, and Exponential Audio’s R2 and PhoneixVerb plug-ins.
