Midem 2021 goes fully digital for November event

Music conference Midem is set to be a fully digital, free-to-access experience in 2021, moving from its usual time slot in June to 16-19 November.

Midem is set to return as a physical conference in 2022, running 7-10 June in Cannes. Along with 2021’s summer event, the 2020 conference was also cancelled as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

November’s Midem Digital Edition 2021 virtual event will take place on the Midem Digital platform, which opened in June 2020. The platform offers its current 12,500 members year-round access to essential resources, including ongoing networking and educational content.

The virtual event will include keynote sessions along with artist and music tech start-up competition, workshops and the usual networking opportunities.

Since the pandemic hit us all, we’ve taken our role in keeping the worldwide community connected, informed, engaged and looking forward together, extremely seriously,” said Midem Director, Alexandre Deniot. “Midem Digital has allowed us to be here, daily, throughout the year to help us all better understand the new context in which we find ourselves and to navigate our new landscape.

“Given the current global context around Covid, Midem 2021 will be a fully online experience. We can’t wait to be back in our home in Cannes in June 2022 for a long overdue reunion with our members from more than 151 countries, who’ve been making use of Midem Digital this year.”

The show’s organisers also confirmed the launch of the “first ever pan-African digital music event” – Midem Africa.

Running 28 June-1 July, the four-day event will map the African music industries, highlighting trends and opportunities and providing insights and practical tools for networking and accelerating business opportunities and careers.
