NAMM 2013: DPA to introduce d:facto II microphone

DPA Microphones will launch the d:facto II vocal microphone at the 2013 NAMM Show (Booth 6996).

Offering what the company describes as "a true studio sound for the live stage," the new addition to the d:facto line offers a natural sound with high separation and extreme SPL handling. As well as being compatible with the new wired DPA handle, the d:facto II provides singers and engineers with a special adapter system, which allows for seamless integration with a variety of professional wireless systems.

“We are extremely proud to have developed an ingenious adapter range that brings the true DPA sound out of a wireless system,” said Christian Poulsen, CEO of DPA Microphones. “The wireless systems currently available deliver very limited power to drive the capsule, so getting the sound quality we wanted was nearly impossible. We had to be creative and put a huge amount of work and thought into the electronic circuit of the adapter solution. To my knowledge, no-one else has been able to be so true to the input of the vocalist. We wanted to make the best vocal microphone on the market, and with the d:facto, we have reached this goal.”

The d:facto II offers DPA sound to users of wireless systems from the likes of Sony, Lectrosonics, Shure, Wisycom and Sennheiser. According to the company, the d:facto II provides improved audio performance as it is highly linear in frequency and phase, both on- and off-axis.

“Easy to use, true to the voice, stylish to look at and wonderful to hold, the d:facto II is a true work of art, “ added Susanne Seidel, DPA’s executive vice president of sales and marketing. “With the new microphone, we look forward to making both the singer and sound engineer’s dreams come true. The flexibility of its inventive adapter system gives the user simple and very affordable possibilities of choosing either a wired DPA handle or the professional wireless system of their choosing, with no loss in the sound quality.”

As with all DPA mics, the d:facto II provides very high gain before feedback, and a three-stage pop protection grid built into the microphone to remove unwanted noise. It also provides isolation from handling noise and can accommodate extreme sound levels.

The cabled version of the d:facto II, as well as the adapters for Shure, Sony, Lectrosonics and Wisycom, will be available in February 2013, while the adapters for the Sennheiser systems will hit the market in March.
