NAMM 2014: QSC launches compact digital mixer line

QSC is debuting its highly-anticipated TouchMix digital mixer range at NAMM 2014.

The mixers are designed to give musicians, production professionals and live performance venues the power and capability of a large-scale console in a highly portable, fully integrated, affordable and easy to use format.

Available in mid-2014, TouchMix-8 (12 input channels) and TouchMix-16 (20 input channels) offer users a choice of Advanced Mode operation – enabling total control over all parameters – or Simple Mode, which provides essential controls only.

Other features include a four-band, fully parametric EQ with both variable hi-and lo-pass filters, along with dynamics processing on each input channel. The four mix busses feed four internal, professional, digital effects processors. Comprehensive dynamics, graphic EQ, hi- pass, lo-pass and notch filters and delay are available on both the main and aux outputs, while there are also eight DCA groups with mutes, as well as eight mute groups. Equipped with four (TouchMix-8) or ten (TouchMix-16) auxiliary output channels, TouchMix also has ample stage monitor mixing capability. Both models can drive multiple wired stereo in-ear monitors directly.

TouchMix comes with a broad library of Channel Presets designed specifically for live sound reinforcement and developed by experienced live sound engineers, utilising various instruments, microphones, pickups and speaker systems. The onboard Effects Wizard guides users through the process of selecting and assigning appropriate effects, while the Gain Wizard continuously monitors and displays input clipping. An extensive library of complete Mixer Scenes is also included, and all user parameters of any mix can be saved, both internally and via USB drive.

The mixers are completely self-contained and require no external PC or video display. The graphic, colour touchscreen provides access to all mix parameters, along with a physical rotary encoder and hardware buttons. A Remote Control App for iOS devices controls all mixer parameters, while the included USB Wi-Fi adapter creates the network connection between the mixer and the handheld device. No external network hardware is required.

The systems are also capable of direct recording to an external USB hard drive in 32-bit broadcast wave format. Tracks can be played back on the mixer or imported into most DAWs for over-dubs and post-production.

TouchMix-8 and Touchmix-16 also ship with their own padded carrying case for transport and protection.
