PLASA 2011: The sound of Glastonbury

This month’s PLASA event will see RG Jones present an overview of the sound of Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage.

The entry-level seminar is part of the PLASA 2011 seminar programme, which takes place on Wednesday 14 September. It is primarily designed for students taking accredited performing arts courses or apprenticeships whom want to expand their understanding of how festival audio production works.

Simon Honywill, project manager and FOH Engineer for RG Jones, will present the session. Honywill is a highly respected sound designer within the industry. When he’s not traversing the globe he spends his time nurturing the next generation of sound designers at Deep Blue Sound – an established and specialised audio college.

Honywill has played a key role in the implementation of the design for Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage, which has been consistently successful for the last four years.

The presentation will cover subjects such as system design, logistics of high-pressure turnarounds, and catering to the needs of a broad range of artists.

The session will be held in the Victoria Room, Earls Court 2, from 3.30pm – 4.30pm on Wednesday 14 September. Seminar admission is free to any PLASA 2011 visitor and can be booked at the web address below.

Furthermore, the National Skills Academy is running a special tour for students at this year’s show as part of Education Wednesday. Students need to report to the NSA stand (1-C33) to sign up for a tour of participating exhibitors, who will give special presentations and demo’s.
