PROFILE: Lynx Pro Audio

Based in Valencia, Spain, Lynx Pro Audio is the country’s newest pro audio manufacturer. The company delivers high-end, self-powered systems to more than 30 distributors worldwide and has a very simple philosophy: To design and manufacture the most advanced and technologically innovative sound reinforcement available anywhere in the world.

The R&D department try and test every componet available and only choose the best for their cabinets. As a relatively new player, the company does not have the brand recognition of some other more established manufacturers but is confident that its systems can compete with the best, while encouraging users to dig deeper, read about their technology and put its equipment to the test.

The company’s LX Series line array range boasts three different models, the LX-F6, LX-V8 and the newest and largest, LX-V12. These line arrays are installed all over the world and have been used for a number of high-profile events, such as on the Park stage at Glastonbury and more recently for NTVG, one of South America’s most famous groups, where 24 LX-V8 cabinets were used for a crowd of 60,000.

Each array in the LX Series is self-powered, with DSP integrated into each box. They also include a host of other features, such as the inclinometer, a feature, which means the box automatically knows at which angle it is tilted, follows where in the line array it is located and uses this information to adjust for long, medium or short throw sound dispersion.

Three sub-bass options are also available in the LX Series, including the new LX-318HC, a high power cardioid sub-bass employing three 18” transducers with 4200W of class D amplification (with PFC) in each enclosure.

The ADP Series represents the company’s touring range, and, once again, each of the cabinets in this series are self-powered with integrated DSP. This powered family is designed to provide optimum versatility, as well as an impressive power to size ratio. Every box comes with 13 presets, which include a basic full-range preset, various crossovers with 80-90-100 Hz frequency cuts and a flat preset so that the user can adjust the parameters manually.

Ethernet capabilities are also available, which allow the user to see the input level signal, fan speed, power module temperature etc.

Manufactured from premium birch plywooh, high grade paint, ergonomic handles, anti-rust grills and with neodymium, nomex, titanium, integrated DSPs and class D switching power supply amplification on board, the ADP Series is aimed at providing opimised sound reinforcement.

The company also develops a range of passive cabinets – the QB Series. All finished in premium birch plywood, the QB series comprises nine full range boxes and 5 sub-bass enclosures. Again, with this series the company endeavours to offer something different. The QB-D8, for example, is a dual 8” full range cabinet, which uses Hexacone drivers, a composite material made from two layers of Kevlar sandwiching a honeycomb layer of nomex. This extremely light cone is also designed to be more rigid and resistant than conventional materials and delivers higher levels of SPL to other speakers.

Lynx Pro Audio also has its own electronics department, developing software and digital signal processors. The ARK series of controller racks are all manufactured at the company’s headquarters and offer double dynamics (RMS & Peak). With 0.6ms fixed latency, the ARK controllers are one of the lowest latency processors on the market, delivering a dynamic range of 120dB with the internal DSP working with double precision filters and achieve an internal resolution of 56bits. With Ethersound capabilities Lynx aims to offer yet more cutting edge technology.

The company’s Rainbow software allows users to “virtually” determine the acoustical response of one or more cabinets at the same time. Based on polar response measurements, taken with a 360º coverage both vertically and horizontally, the Rainbow software is able to calculate the SPL response, including the interaction between them taking into account the magnitude and phase response, in order to enable the user to correct cancellations and even to create them if the acoustical design so requires. The software is able to import WMF Vector Files with technical drawings and insert them directly into the prediction window, thus enabling real measurement predictions. This also helps to determine dead zones and obtain the maximum performance from each of the cabinets installed.

Jesus Yuentes, Lynx product manager, said, “We have one thing very clear and that is that we will only use the best components in our systems. This involves a very long selection process but ensures that when we bring a cabinet to the market it can compete with the very best. Our strategy is simple and we will not compromise by using anything from China for example. Every single part and component has to be of the very highest quality. We want Lynx Pro Audio to be regarded as a very high-end product, so that means we can not compromise.

“As a relatively new player in the market we do have a challenge to convert people to using Lynx Pro audio systems. We don’t have the name yet but what we do have is the quality. We already have some very loyal customers and our roster of distributors is growing very quickly with some very convinced converts to the product. We are extremely pleased with our results so far and our goal is to get more and more people listening to our equipment so they realise just how good it is.”
