RG Jones selects Turbosound for historic church

UK audio contractor RG Jones has installed a Turbosound Impact system at the historic St. Mary’s Church in Petworth, West Sussex.

An approved dealer of the diocese, RG Jones was approached by the Friends of St Mary’s Petworth to submit a specification for the sound system. Project manager for the installation, Jeff Woodford, explained: “The quote was agreed within a week. Turbosound products were selected because of my long-time familiarity with the brand, and also because the company is a local supplier that we know and trust.”

According to the Friends of St Mary’s Petworth, the sound quality in much of the church had initially been sub-standard, leading to calls for an improved audio solution.

“St Mary’s is one of the bigger churches that we’ve done and I chose to install the Impact series because of its excellent sound quality and ability to colour-match to really blend in to the surroundings,” said Woodford. “Impact comes with 100 volt line distribution as standard, which makes the cabling really easy, and the tap selectors conveniently allow you to step down the output from each speaker depending on the coverage and level needed in each zone.”

From the front to the back of the nave, the install consists of a pair of passive 3.5-inch two-way Impact 35Ts covering the very front section, a pair of passive dual 5-inch two-way Impact 65Ts to cover the main front area, a pair of passive 5-inch two-way Impact 55Ts covering the side aisles, and an Impact 55T further down covering the rear area.

A pair of Impact 55Ts covers the choir, and three additional Impact 55Ts provide coverage in the balcony. There is also a single TSB-110 bandpass subwoofer under the pulpit to provide the low-end extension for the system.

“You can get a great sound with Impact. With a good processor you can add a little EQ here and there, but it really doesn’t need a lot to get a good result,” concluded Woodford.
