Select Committee Quizzes PLASA

PLASA CEO Matthew Griffiths will appear alongside members of the London 2012 Opening Ceremony creative team, representing the entertainment and installation technology industries before the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee on Tuesday 26th March at the House of Commons.
PLASA has been lobbying on behalf of its members, many of whom were unhappy with being unable to promote their involvement in the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Now PLASA has been invited to appear before the Select Committee to help MPs assess the extent of the role that the Games had in showcasing the UK creative industries, and the subsequent impact on the sector – if any.

“Many of our members were disappointed to discover the pervasiveness of the orders set up to protect the sponsorship deals of companies from outside the creative industries," said Griffiths. "Whilst the generality of the orders meant that many companies missed out on the chance to promote their participation at that time, we are encouraged by this opportunity to communicate with MPs about the effect that this has had, and contribute to the discussion about what they can do to support us in the future.”

The Committee will also be questioning Griffiths and his fellow witnesses on how the government can support the creative economy more generally, and looking for ideas to ensure long-term benefits for PLASA members.
