Sennheiser helps discover ‘The Voice of Ireland’

Based on the international hit format, this year’s ‘The Voice of Ireland’ set out to identify the best singing talent that the country has to offer.

The final stage of the show lasted for seven weeks and was broadcast live as the final 24 acts battled it out to be crowned this year’s winner.

The added pressure of the live broadcast part of the show meant that the wireless microphone and in ear monitoring systems had to not only offer high sound quality, but also provide the best possible RF performance.

The presenters used Sennheiser SKM5200 II handheld microphones with MD5005 super-cardioid capsules, while the performers used SKM2000 handheld transmitters with Neumann KK204 cardioid condenser microphone capsules. Both presenters and performers wore bodypack transmitter’s with MKE2 lapel microphones. In Ear Monitoring was a mixture of EW300 and 2000 series systems and the complete RF system was networked and monitored with the Sennheiser WSM software application.

Front of house sound was provided by Sound Design of Dublin. “The decision was made to go with Sennheiser as we wanted to use just one product for all our wireless systems. Sennheiser gave us the network system to perfect the job in hand; the WSM software application was a very easy to use system, which allowed an easy set up for scanning and antenna placement," said John Vickers of Sound Design. "The SKM2000 handhelds and Neumann KK204 was our choice for the performers – its sleek look, smooth sound and high gain was perfect for IEMs and gave us the sound quality we needed for both PA and broadcast sound.”
