SILENCE! invests in APG?s Uniline

Paris-based supplier of AV equipment and services to the TV and live events market in France SILENCE!, has invested in a Uniline modular line array system from French manufacturers APG.

The news of SILENCE!’s purchase, which comprises 12 UL210s; six UL210Ds; six UL115Bs and six UL218S subs, comes hot on the heels of the announcement that the UK’s Plus 4 Audio, also TV studio sound specialists, has recently taken delivery of their Uniline system. SILENCE! CEO Gilles Hugo, explained: “It’s true that until now, we have limited our stock of PA equipment so that we are under no pressure to supply one brand over another. We supply what is best for the job or event concerned. However, having used the Uniline system to great effect on The Voice we started to re-evaluate.

“The Voice” was about as complex as TV shows get these days, and with the added pressure that it absolutely had to sound good in the studio, as the candidates were being judged on the sound that came from the PA; the coaches didn’t have in-ear monitors as they do on certain other shows of the same genre,” continued Hugo. “The Uniline system did a wonderful job for us. It’s one of those systems that sounds good straight out of the box, so that’s a good start. Secondly, the ergonomics of the system work very well for us – it’s compact, lightweight, easy to handle and easy to fly, which is important everywhere but especially in a TV studio. Thirdly, it offers a clean, neutral yet powerful sound with excellent horizontal dispersion and a superb stereo image. The vertical dispersion is also very easy to control and works well. In other words, Uniline seems to fulfil all of our requirements. In fact, I would go so far as to say that on The Voice we achieved possibly our best results in 30 years of TV work.”

Hugo also pointed out out that with Uniline, SILENCE! is not only confined to the realm of TV studio shows. “We are convinced that the modularity and versatility of this system will guarantee and excellent level of profitability as it is capable of handling everything from small indoor shows right up to major outdoor festivals. In fact, our first event with Uniline was the M6 Music Live festival in Issy-Les-Moulineaux on 23rd June. We had some huge stars including Yannick Noah, Charlie Winston and Nelly Furtado amongst others who played to audiences of up to 25,000 people. It couldn’t be further away from “The Voice” but it sounded amazing nonetheless. I’m convinced that we have made the right investment.”
