Strummer of Love festival announced to commemorate legendary Clash frontman

It has been announced that this August will see Strummer of Love – a special one-off festival – take place in a secret Somerset location to commemorate the late legendary Clash frontman Joe Strummer.

Taking place over the weekend of August 17th-19th, the festival will mark the tenth anniversary of Strummer’s death. And in his honour, proceeds from the festival will benefit the work of Strummerville: The Joe Strummer New Music Foundation, which was set up in the singer’s memory by his friends and family.

Lucinda Garland, chair of the board of trustees, said: “We felt there was only one way to mark Joe’s anniversary and that was around a campfire in the fields at a festival, his favourite place to be. We have been truly honoured with so many brilliant bands coming out to play at this tribute and what promises to be a great benefit for the charity which will help us to continue our work.”

The line up will include friends and fans of Strummer alongside a host of exciting new acts, many of them supported by the work of Strummerville, while an array of exclusive events and stalls will also be on offer to complement the live music.

Furthermore, Strummer of Love will be the only major UK festival to handle its own ticket sales, therefore bypassing the usual hefty booking fees associated with festivals. Strummerville will also have a forum for re-sale of tickets so that they won’t be on sale via so-called “fan-to-fan” websites.

Since its inception in 2003, Strummerville has been helping bands to record and release music, as well as providing rehearsal spaces for young artists, with studios located in London, Belfast and Bogotá.

The festival, which will accommodate 5,000 people, will see the first 1,001 tickets made available on April 11th at a special price of £101 in honour of Strummer’s first band, The 101ers. The precise location details of the festival will also be supplied with delivery of the physical ticket.
