TC Electronic creates Loudness Pilot

TC Electronic has announced the arrival of Loudness Pilot, a new multiple stereo and mono loudness controller and true-peak limiter.

Loudness Pilot has been designed specifically for TV and radio stations with a fit-for-purpose design featuring two stereo audio tracks. Now, busy broadcasters can find peace of mind on a focused unit, fully compliant with all major loudness and broadcast standards. TC Electronic has priced Loudness Pilot so that uncompromised audio processing is within reach of all users.

Thomas Valter, VP of business management, broadcast and production at TC Electronic: “With our new Loudness Pilot you get outstanding loudness processing for stereo and can evolve with the standards without breaking the budget.”

Broadcasters often need to transmit two signals simultaneously in different languages. Loudness Pilot transforms this into an effortless process, on a single unit – with all of the dual redundancy features welcomed by users across the industry. The unit even automatically switches over to another audio-stream, should a secondary language not be available. It launches with five different versions: SDI 1, 2, or 3 streams and AES balanced or unbalanced.

When transmitting both to TV and to a mobile platform simultaneously, Loudness Pilot delivers a signal fully compliant with TV standards – optimising the signal to the mobile platform at the same time.

Valter: “If you have to stream to a mobile platform your signal will probably need to be a bit louder. In the absence of set standards for this area, we recommend that broadcasters aim at -16 LUFS/LKFS for this signal. You can set Loudness Pilot perfectly for each of your transmissions.”

Loudness Pilot is purpose built and its focused design in both the SDI and AES versions also includes the option to add the TC Loudness Radar Meter and 24/7 logging as a separate license.

It is also packed with dual redundancy features so that the signal will never be in jeopardy. Not only are there dual fuses and dual fans – there are also dual power inputs and a Relay Bypass feature (on both SDI and AES versions) that passes the stream directly from input to output no matter what happens.
