Buckinghamshire New University graduate Tim Edwards, 21, has won an award from JAMES for the quality of his work with singer/songwriter Nicole D as part of his degree.

Edwards, who graduated with a first-class degree in the JAMES-accredited BA (Hons) Audio and Music Production course, won a week’s postgraduate study at the Gus Dudgeon MCI Studio Suite based at The ATRiuM Campus of University of South Wales in Cardiff.

Edwards said: "I was really surprised and humbled to win the award. I felt there were a lot of other students who could have won it so I’m just grateful that my work was recognised out of so many worthy candidates.

“Nicole is primarily an acoustic singer/songwriter who, at the time of recording, was based in Coventry where she was studying music performance at Coventry University.

“I recorded two songs with fellow students Chris Birkett and Marc Hurrell, called Home and Butterflies, and developed Nicole’s acoustic versions into fuller productions more suited to a commercial audience. The latest I heard from Nicole was that she planned to shoot a music video for Butterflies.

"I feel I benefited greatly from my degree and enjoyed the opportunity to learn from some great people who have either worked or are working in the various audio industries. I would now like to pursue a career in music production or post production work in TV or film."

David Harries, of JAMES, presented Edwards with his award. “We at JAMES were very impressed with Tim’s work and are pleased that such a worthy candidate has benefited from this year’s JAMES award, sponsored by Richer Sounds,” said Harries. “I’ve been in the recording business for many years and it is most encouraging to witness the impressive work turned out by all Audio and Music Production students at Bucks New University, who have obviously been tutored to a very high standard.”
