Todd-Soundelux expands, Kevin O?Connell joins

Post-production sound company Todd-Soundelux has reached an agreement to extend the lease term by 10 years for its Todd-AO West facility, located at Lantana in Santa Monica. In addition, re-recording mixer Kevin O’Connell has joined the facility.

The lease added new space adjacent to Todd-AO West, creating Soundelux West for the company’s sound editorial presence. The new space will house some of the company’s most respected creative talent, including supervising sound editors Wylie Stateman and Peter Brown.

Todd-AO West consists of five mixing stages, one ADR stage, one Foley stage, and a number of production offices and editorial rooms. Todd-AO West has recently completed significant technical upgrades to its stages, and services a variety of feature film and television projects, including titles such as Iron Man 3, Last Vegas, Lone Survivor, Nashville, and HBO’s Girls.

The lease extension agreement provides a commitment to make a series of significant investments in physical and technical upgrades, as the company seeks to further revitalise its facilities and deploy innovative updates to its proprietary workflows.

O’Connell, who has been nominated for 20 Academy Awards, will combine his role as re-recording mixer with a senior-level creative position, providing oversight on issues related to feature film business development, client services, creative talent, and strategic initiatives.

With a career spanning four decades, O’Connell’s work has been recognised with 20 Academy Award nominations, making him one of the most nominated individuals in the Academy’s history. O’Connell’s extensive list of mixing credits include iconic titles such as Transformers, Spider-Man, Pearl Harbor, Twister, Days of Thunder, and Top Gun. O’Connell, who recently completed a term as the representative of the Academy’s Sound Branch to its Board of Governors, recently completed work on 47 Ronin for director Carl Rinsch and Last Vegas for director Jon Turteltaub.
