WAM hosts first conference for women in audio at LA’s legendary Capitol Studios

Women’s Audio Mission (WAM) presented the first ever recording arts conference for women in Los Angeles on June 9, 2018, at the legendary Capitol Studios in Los Angeles.

More than 100 female engineers and music producers attended the sold-out event hosted by the San Francisco-based organisation which aims to advance women in the music and recording arts industries.

The conference, which featured interactive panels and workshops with some of the world’s top female producers, engineers and music executives, marks the first time WAM has brought its award-winning training and curriculum to Los Angeles. The conference included in-depth sessions on subjects ranging from mixing, tracking, live sound, songwriting and beat production to the music business. A networking reception followed with surprise guest, Al Schmitt, the acclaimed engineer and producer with 160 Gold and Platinum album credits to his name.

The who’s who of the LA music scene was in attendance, including mix engineer Marcella "Ms. Lago" Araica (Pink, Madonna, Jay-Z); front of house engineer Amanda Davis (Janelle Monáe, Tegan and Sara); singer-songwriter Jane Handcock (Rick Ross, Kelly Rowland); and chief operating officer of Capitol Music Group Michelle Jubelirer.

“[WAM @ Capitol] was a magical and moving experience that will ripple through the work of every woman who was present,” said Ainjel Emme, producer recording Engineer, who attended the conference last weekend.

“I had the best experience today at the WAM @ Capitol event learning from a panel of inspiring and talented female musicians,” said musician Myracle McCoy. “I feel so ready to go take over the world with my sisters right now.”
