Allen & Heath introduces ICE-16D multi-track recorder

Allen & Heath has launched ICE-16D, an alternative to the ICE-16 multi-track recorder released last year.

Both devices are 16 In/16 Out audio interfaces that allow performers and engineers to capture high quality multi-track recordings direct to a USB drive, or interface to a computer, with ease. The ICE-16D also offers balanced I/O, designed for customers using the unit in a studio, or for those who require fully balanced inputs and outputs on AES59 standard D Sub connectors.

Featuring a compact 1U rack design, ICE-16 and ICE-16D deliver studio quality interfacing, converting and bi-directional streaming of 16 channels over high-speed USB or FireWire at 24 bit, 96kHz resolution. Alternatively, 16 channels can be simultaneously recorded straight to a USB hard drive or memory stick at up to 24bit 48kHz resolution as a .wav file. The unit is expandable, enabling users to link units together and synchronise recording of many channels.

Signal and peak metering is available for each channel, which can be switched to show input or output. Headphone monitoring is included too, while switches on each channel allow individual or multiple channels to be checked. ASIO drivers and Core Audio compliance ensure full compatibility with a wide variety of digital audio workstations, including Logic, Sonar, Cubase and Pro Tools.

“We listened to customers who prefer balanced connections to interface with their studio equipment or perhaps want to run longer cable runs.” said Allen & Heath R&D designer Mike Griffin. “D Sub connectors provide a convenient way to connect multiple channels, with easily available cables from music stores or cable suppliers”.

ICE-16D is released this month with a UK RRP of £990.
