Capital Sound handles Kylie Minogue concert in Abu Dhabi

Four years on from the opening of Yas Marina circuit, the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix offered a series of After Race Concerts featuring Kylie Minogue, Nickleback and Eminem.

With Kylie’s production manager Kevin Hopgood busy on another tour, Capital Productions was asked to look after production and audio for the pop star’s concert on the Friday night (November 2nd 2012).

Capital project manager Robin Conway took care of the audio, while Paul Timmins was in charge of production for the large-scale one-off show.

Regular sound engineers Kevin Pruce and Dan Kent, at FOH and monitors respectively, specified the control, which Capital supplied for the rehearsals in London and the show in Abu Dhabi.

Consoles picked for the concert included an Avid VENUE Profile System at FOH and a Digico SD8 at monitors. A raft of Sennheiser radio microphones and in-ear monitoring systems were also used, with Kylie, backing vocals and the full band all on IEMs.

The loudspeaker system supplied in the Yas Arena was from Delta Dubai, and was system engineered by Al Woods, who has been a regular for both Delta and Capital for many years.

“It was a great success,” said Timmins. “The Friday night saw a crowd approaching 30,000 petrol heads.”
