DTS delivers new DTS:X tools for content professionals

DTS has revealed a suite of new DTS:X tools for digital media content professionals.

DTS:X Encoder and MediaPlayer will be available worldwide the first week of August through the DTS website, as well as authorised distribution partners Jargon Technologies and Scenarist.

The software-based tools allow professionals to create and QC DTS:X immersive audio streams for Blu-ray Disc, Ultra HD Blu-ray and streaming media. The DTS:X Encoder Suite includes the DTS:X Encoder and DTS:X MediaPlayer together, with a US MSRP of $1,495. The standalone DTS:X MediaPlayer will have an MSRP of $495.

With the Mac-based Encoder application, DTS encodes can be created from a variety of audio source files, including PCM WAV, Broadcast WAV, AIF or M2X files. Rebuilt from the ground up while retaining key workflows from the DTS-HD Master Audio Suite, DTS:X Encoder has a new interface that provides an optimised workflow, making it easy for users to choose different encode settings such as channel layout, stream type and bit rate to create the appropriate DTS-HD encode file. Additional features include the ability to create custom downmixes for channel-based encodes, and check for downmix saturation before creating an encode.

Following on from the DTS-HD MediaPlayer, the DTS:X MediaPlayer gives users the ability to QC DTS audio against video prior to final multiplexing, authoring or packaging. The product supports various files types and video formats, including HEVC, with controls and settings required to complete this critical step in the digital media content creation process.

DTS:X is DTS’ new object-based, multi-dimensional audio technology for immersive experiences. According to the company, it conveys the fluid movement of sound to create ‘an incredibly rich, realistic and immersive soundscape – in front of, behind, beside and above the audience – more accurately than ever before’ in configurations up to 11.1 channels.
