Empire Design adds Avid S6, S3 control surfaces

Scrub, a division of HHB specialising in post production, has provided Avid S6 and S3 control surfaces for Empire Design’s London post production studios.

Senior sound engineer Sam Rowland attended the Avid S6 launch at IBC and immediately knew it was needed to upgrade Empire’s Pro Tools audio suite, according to HHB. Scrub therefore supplied and installed a 16-fader S6 M40 in Empire’s Dolby approved, 5.1-equipped mixing suite, as well as an S3 and Pro Tools software upgrades as part of a package that also includes training and support.

Rowland has been working with Pro Tools for over a decade and is now finding that the S6 gives him a new level of control over his sessions: “The design and feedback provided by the S6 is incredible. The Master Touch Module gives you touchscreen control of critical editing functions from the center of the console and eliminates the need for a second monitor because everything is right in front of you with great visual indicators," he said. "I also love being able to grab a fader and adjust dynamics and EQ on the surface, just like an analogue console.”

The S6 M40 with additional Display modules provides Empire with visual feedback via 8 channels of high resolution TFT displays per fader, and S6s modular platform enables them to add more modules over time.

Rowland explained: “The S6 puts us at the leading edge of technology by significantly enhancing our workflow and speed. Scrub has been very helpful throughout the process and their technical support engineers are a trusted source of knowledge that we can always rely on. It is very reassuring to have that level of support right on our doorstep.”

Scrub sales Devin Workman commented: “Empire’s Trailer Department creates a very high level of content and the S6 is the perfect system for work of this magnitude. Their facilities are very impressive and it is great to watch their success as they expand the audio department.”
