John Bolen joins Formosa Villa team

Californian post-production sound specialist Formosa Group has hired accomplished mixer John Bolen, who becomes a key part of the crew at the company’s new commercial/branded entertainment division Formosa Villa.

Located at the former home of POP Sound (Pacific Ocean Post), which closed its doors last year, Formosa Villa has also welcomed Lauren Cascio as its new executive producer.

The 17,000-square-foot facilty in Santa Monica has also come through an extensive renovation project recently.

Industry veteran Bolen comes to Formosa Villa from PLAY Studios, where he spent 12 years, and brings with him over two decades of experience in post-production sound. Bolen has regularly teamed up with top agencies such as TBWAChiatDay, Media Arts Lab, 72andSunny, Venables Bell & Partners, Wieden+Kennedy, Deutsch, Vitro and David&Goliath, among others.

With a degree in recording and music from Johns Hopkins Peabody Conservatory, Bolen began his career at Virginia-based Roland House. For eight years, he mixed long-form projects for major broadcast clients including PBS, Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel and National Geographic. In 1999, John accepted an offer to move to LA to work at Eleven Sound in Santa Monica, where he found his love for commercials.

“We are thrilled to continue our growth and expansion, and honored to welcome such a singular talent as John Bolen along with his valued team,” said Formosa Group president and COO Robert C. Rosenthal.

Bolen added: “When you work with clients for a long time, they really become friends and it’s natural to go above and beyond for them. I’m excited to join Formosa Villa and continue to work here with some of the most creative people in our industry that I’ve been lucky enough to collaborate with over the years.”
