Keziah Jones tour powered by Midas PRO1

A Midas PRO1 console was selected for African ‘Blufunk’ star Keziah Jones’ recent central European tour.

Monitor sound engineer for the tour, Mark Portlock, explained why he picked the PRO1 for the tour, which included trips to Brussels, Geneva and Basel. “This is a very short run of dates in small 700- to 1,000-capacity clubs and theatres. We needed a console that was compact enough to go in the bus bay, but would give us the same high quality sound as the larger Midas consoles.

"We recently completed a run of European festivals with a Heritage 2000 on stage and out front, and we will be back on a worldwide full production tour schedule with a PRO6 FOH and PRO2 on monitors in the spring."

Portlock has worked with several well-known and respected artists, and can be regularly seen front-of-house at Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London.

“For me, first it’s about the sound quality," he continued. "The PRO1 is everything we have waited for from Midas, but smaller. With the POP groups I can arrange mix buses and associated inputs and FX returns on the same incredibly viewable screen at the touch of a button and can change the assignments song by song within the scenes.

"The touch sensitive channel strip is intuitive – almost analogue feeling – which I love. The fact that I can copy scenes within files from across the entire Midas digital family and make and edit files on any surface has obvious advantages. The new outboard units in Gen2 are awesome; I particularly love the dynamic equaliser and the new plate reverb."
