Live music returning to Knebworth Park in 2014

The organisers of the Sonisphere festival have revealed they are planning an event to celebrate 40 years of live rock music at Knebworth Park.

The first Sonisphere took place at Knebworth in 2009 and continued for the next two summers, but was cancelled in 2012, with no event scheduled for this year either.

But it looks as though live rock music is set to return to the historic estate from July 4th to 6th 2014, according to the official Sonisphere website. However, it has not yet been confirmed whether the event will be another Sonisphere, or something else entirely.

The first major concert at Knebworth, back in 1974, attracted 60,000 fans with a line-up that featured the Allman Brothers Band, Van Morrison and the Doobie Brothers.

Other artists/bands that have played Knebworth in the past include Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones, Genesis, Frank Zappa, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Oasis, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Robbie Williams. Queen’s last show with Freddie Mercury was also held at Knebworth in 1986.
