NAMM 2013: Focusrite strengthening studio gear line-up

Focusrite is launching an array of new products at the NAMM Show this week.

The new RedNet Ethernet-based interface system – a range of remote-controlled interfaces that connect via standard Ethernet to a computer running recording software – delivers high quality audio, along with flexibility and ease of installation. RedNet units 1-4 provide multi-channel analog and digital I/O, as well as Focusrite mic preamps. The RedNet PCIe card enables low system-wide latencies and intricate control opportunities, while RedNet 5 provides a direct link to Pro Tools HD.

Later in 2013, Focusrite will begin shipping RedNet 6 (pictured), a 64-channel interface providing MADI connectivity that will also be on show in Anaheim. Featuring both coaxial and optical formats of MADI, RedNet 6 connects to other compatible devices such as large-format mixing consoles, standalone converters and PCIe cards. The MADI audio stream can operate simultaneously at a different sample rate to the RedNet network using ASRC (Asynchronous Sample Rate Conversion), a feature that’s particularly useful in post-production.

Also new from Focusrite is the Scarlett 18i20 – its latest high-quality USB 2.0 interface. Equipped with 18 inputs and 20 outputs and award-winning mic preamps, it’s capable of making studio-quality recordings.

Other features include precision 24-bit/96kHz A-D/D-A converters, analogue mic/line inputs fitted with combination XLR/jack input sockets, and connections for channels 1+ 2 on the front panel offering additional Hi-Z instrument modes and a switchable 10dB pad.

Scarlett 18i20 ships with a software suite that includes Ableton Live Lite, along with Novation’s Bass Station soft synth and over 1GB of Loopmasters samples.

The final new Focusrite release is the Scarlett Studio, a complete home studio kit with all the gear required to record professional-quality tracks, including a fully-featured software suite.

Built around the Scarlett 2i2 USB 2.0 audio interface, the Scarlett Studio package includes the CM25 large-diaphragm condenser microphone, an XLR cable and a pair of HP60 monitoring headphones. The suite of recording, editing and processing software that comes with the bundle allows the user to start making music straight out of the box.
