Northbrook opens ‘biggest studio complex in South of England’

Northbrook is celebrating the opening of its multimillion pound studio complex by teaming up with Focusrite Rednet, Novation and Tru Thoughts for a technology event combined with a recording session/remix competition.

Designed by the Studio People, the studio complex – which the college claims is now the biggest in the south of England – features the largest network of Focusrite Rednet audio interfaces on the South Coast. The Rednet interfaces use the Dante ethernet protocol to provide ‘unparalleled flexibility of routing’ across the entire studio complex.

The complex, which opened at the start of this academic year, features 17 HiSpec Studios including SSL, Tascam Digital, TL Audio Valve and Audient desks aligned with (via Rednet) five acoustically balanced live rooms as well as three Mac suites and one DJ room.

The redevelopment also provides five new computer software suites which can also receive signals from the Rednet network as well as all the other rooms, allowing the music department to teach ‘not only using cutting edge equipment but in a world beating studio complex’.

To mark the opening, Northbrook is holding a technology recording event on 28 October featuring talks, demos and masterclasses from Novation and Focusrite, who will be discussing its Rednet technology. Tru Thoughts’ up-and-coming artist JFelix will also be performing songs which will be recorded in the main SSL studio and routed to all other areas of the music department via Rednet for capture by remix contest entrants.

Attendees can register their interest in attending the event and completing a remix here.
