Recording Academy P&E wing publishes new hi-res music production white papers

The Recording Academy Producers & Engineers Wing has published a new paper titled "Recommendations for Hi-Resolution Music Production"; and an updated version of its historically influential "Recommendations for Delivery of Recorded Music Projects."

The brand new ”Recommendations for Hi-Resolution Music Production" addresses the industry’s current perceived lack of hi-res production standards to help increase efficiency and transparency in the production process. The paper was created by a dedicated committee, chaired by Grammy Award-winning engineer and current director of music recording and scoring at Skywalker Sound, Leslie Ann Jones.

The new revision of "Recommendations for Delivery of Recorded Music Projects" specifies the physical deliverables that are the culmination of the creative process, with the understanding that it is in the interest of all parties involved to ensure that recorded masters are safely stored and remain accessible for both the short and long term.

Previous versions of the Delivery Recommendations have been widely used by record labels, schools, etc. as guidelines and best practices. The updated version provides crucial information about available technologies and includes a new section on recommended file hierarchy and management for recorded music.

The revision committee, chaired by producer/engineer Jeff Balding (Don Henley, Taylor Swift, Maren Morris, Megadeth) and mastering engineer and educator Jim Kaiser (Director of Technology, MasterMix, and Audio Engineering Technology instructor at Belmont University), consists of a cross-genre, cross-region, cross-discipline group of respected recording professionals.
