Sonisphere back in UK next year, Iron Maiden and Metallica to headline

The Sonisphere festival is returning to Knebworth Park in 2014 after a two-year hiatus, with Iron Maiden and Metallica as headliners.

It will be the first time that the heavy metal giants have appeared together on the same UK line-up.

Many started to believe they had seen the end of Sonisphere events in the UK following cancellations in 2012 and 2013, but now, having secured two of the biggest rock bands in history for next year, the organisers are feeling confident about the 2014 festival, which will also mark 40 years since the first Knebworth concert.

"During our two-year absence we’ve continued to believe in and work hard on Sonisphere. We said in 2013 that if we had the right line-up then we would be back, and that’s exactly what we’ve got in 2014," a spokesman for the festival said in a statement. "The omens were obviously on our side when we secured the two biggest and best metal acts of all time in the year that also brings the 40th anniversary of the first concert at Knebworth."

Sonisphere 2014 will take place from July 4th to 6th.
