Soulsound to host modern sound systems seminars

Soulsound is teaming up with Full Fat Audio, Funktion-One, NST Audio and Roland to deliver a four-day seminar programme that will explore ‘Calibration & Design Techniques for Modern Sound Systems’.

The programme, which is aimed at intermediate and experienced sound engineers, will be held at Machines Room in London next week.

Presented by experienced sound and system engineer Merlijn van Veen, the seminars are intended to remove the ‘magic’ surrounding sound systems, and will provide participants with the means and physical insight necessary to create predictable sound system designs, regardless of brand and type of speaker, and then verify the results using the dual channel FFT analyser (SIM 3, SMAART v7, SysTune, etc.)

van Veen will thoroughly investigate the complete transmission path from source to receiver in the acoustical, electrical and psycho-acoustical domains. He explained: “After completion of the seminar programme, sound engineers will be able to provide themselves with the same reference over and over again, like a painter who begins each painting with a blank canvas. The system engineers will be able to design a system that delivers the mixing position sound to the entire audience.”

Soulsound founder Darryn de la Soul added: “I’ve wanted Soulsound to get stuck into this subject and to this level of detail for a long time. I’m very excited about putting 20 audio engineers into a room together and getting deep into the science of system engineering. This seminar does not favour any particular manufacturer or type of system, but rather gives engineers the skills to reproduce results in any situation.”

The ‘Calibration & Design Techniques for Modern Sound Systems’ seminars take place on 7-10 February 2016 at Machines Room, 45 Vyner Street, London, E2 9DQ, between 10am and 6pm each day. Tickets are available here.
