Alcons reveals QR24 line-source column

Alcons Audio has released the QR24 – a modular two-way column loudspeaker for permanent and portable applications.

The QR24 combines natural, dynamic sound reproduction with high intelligibility and throw, in even the most acoustically challenging environments, without the need for DSP-based beam shaping. Due to its modularity, throw and low-frequency directivity can be increased simply by extending the array length. Multiple individual mid-high frequency lobes can also be made by using the QM low-mid fill columns.

The speaker has a length of just 66cm, and is fitted with four 6.5” woofers and two purpose-built 12” pro-ribbon drivers. A RBN03 pro-ribbon platform was developed specifically for this system, offering Alcons’ non-compressed sound quality with very low distortion. A co-axial driver arrangement with the LMF transducers is another feature, which actively cools the RBN drivers for further power compression reduction.

Its symmetrical acoustic design, along with patented horizontal dispersion of the RBN HF drivers, delivers a coherent horizontal pattern control, widening the ‘stereo sweet spot’ significantly for the benefit of the off-axis-positioned audience. Each purpose-designed 12” RBN driver has a peak power handling of 2,000 Watts, creating a system headroom of 4,000 Watts from 1kHz up.

The frequency response is -3dB flat between 74Hz – 20,000Hz, to easily match a accompanying subwoofer system and passive filtering allows up to three QR24 modules to be combined on one amplifier channel, with an array length of two metres.

The QR24 is powered and controlled by the Sentinel amplified loudspeaker controller.
