Berklee Online launches first master’s degree for Music Production and Business

Berklee Online, part of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, has announced that it will be launching its first master’s degree programs this September.

The online music school, said to be the largest of its kind, was established in 2002 and now teaches over 10,000 students a year.

The programs, which will officially start in September 2018, will give students the chance to earn their master’s degree in two areas: Master of Music in Music Production and Master of Arts in Music Business. They will each consist of 12 courses (36 credits) that can be completed within one year.

For the Master of Music in Music Production, students will learn about music production techniques and the power of the latest DAW-based technology, and will include a dynamic education in advanced recording, mixing, and mastering, in addition to focused work on vocal production, audio for visual media, and business sustainability for independent producers. Featured faculty for this program will include renowned producers and engineers like Enrique Gonzalez Müller, Prince Charles Alexander, Sean Slade, and Susan Rogers, who have worked with artists like Prince, Radiohead, Lou Reed, Mary J. Blige, Destiny’s Child, Faith Evans, P. Diddy, Sting, Aretha Franklin, Brian McKnight and many more.

The Master of Arts in Music Business will include learning about fields like artist management, marketing, licensing, branding, and touring, featuring lessons from industry professionals and undertaking an in-depth analyses of factors that influence the industry. Faculty in the Master of Arts in Music Business will feature global brand strategy expert Stephen Canfield, who currently serves as vice president of marketing for WeTransfer, in addition to the director of music licensing at SiriusXM satellite radio Casey Rae.

“This is a chance for students to spend a year doing everything they love and hone their knowledge and skills to advance their career in the music industry,” said Berklee vice president of online education Carin Nuernberg. "Students will learn from world-renowned faculty in an interactive, collaborative course environment while forging connections with a network of talented industry professionals from around the globe."
