German House of Delegates equipped with Tannoy QFlex

The House of Delegates – or ‘Stadthaus’ – in Cottbus, Germany, has had a Tannoy QFlex system installed.

Stadhaus is a historical building and an important part of the local community – its Grand Hall is used for various purposes, including meetings, events and theatre shows.

As the Grand Hall is such a crucial space, a new sound system with plenty of flexibility was added to the list of requirements. However, the original plans included a system that featured nearly 20 loudspeakers, which would have impacted negatively on the aesthetics of the historical venue.

Diego Noack, procurement manager for audio specialists G. Fleischhauer ing. Büro Cottbus GmbH, recommended Tannoy’s award-winning QFlex digital beam steering loudspeaker array for the job. Noack was particularly fond of the architecturally sensitive profile, as well as the system’s ability to distribute smooth, even coverage in acoustically challenging spaces. After some careful modelling, he picked the QFlex 40, after realising that just one speaker either side would be enough to fill the Grand Hall.

“With only a pair of speakers we could keep the historical flair of the hall,” said Noack. “Once installed, the QFlex system seemed to blend with the architecture very well. As well as that, it sounds great, and we even achieved better speech intelligibility than with conventional loudspeakers systems.”

Having discovered the benefits of QFlex, Noack and his team again turned to Tannoy when it came to finding audio solutions for the supplemental spaces, including the balcony area and meeting room spaces.

“We used two CMS 401 DCE Eyeballs as fills for the sub-rank and two i7 loudspeakers for the balcony. The Grand Hall is used for meetings of delegates, but it is also sometimes used as an event-location or even for theatre. There are also two further meeting rooms, which we equipped with a pair i7 each. We went with the same brand as it was important for us to retain the same sonic qualities throughout.”
