PLASA LONDON 2013: AudioLab taking shape with new sponsor and partners

Medialease has signed up to the sponsor the AudioLab Arena at PLASA London 2013, while eight more audio companies are now taking part in the programme.

The AudioLab Arena, AudioLab Theatre and AudioLab Interactive – announced earlier this year – provide visitors with a varied line-up of free educational sessions, demos and interactive experiments.

“The PLASA show is a great opportunity to meet so many audio and lighting professionals under one roof. The exciting new AudioLab Arena offers a new demo and product selection experience, which we expect to be second to none. It gives users the chance to compare the latest technology in an innovative and engaging environment, which we fully support,” said Paul Robson MD of Medialease, a specialist asset finance company.

The AudioLab Arena offers product demonstrations divided into three specialist categories – large format systems, club sound and mobile systems – and visitors will now be able to check out systems from the likes of Adam Hall, Line 6, Pioneer, FBT Audio, KV2, Flare, LAX, Norton and OHM.

The AudioLab Theatre features three distinct seminar streams focusing on Live Sound, Installed Sound and The Sound Business. A number of new sessions have been added to the schedule, including:

Glastonbury 2013 – The team behind the festival’s Arcadia stage explain the creative and technical vision behind the show.
Demystifying Audio Techniques – Using visual experiments and practical demonstrations, d&b audiotechnik will aim to expand visitors’ knowledge of the basic principles of electroacoustics.
RG Jones presents Everything you know is wrong – Live sound engineer Simon Honywill shares his thoughts on the latest developments in loudspeaker design.

Highlights from AudioLab Interactive, a "myth-busting laboratory" where visitors will see live experiments on a range of pro audio equipment include:

Aural athletics; do you trust your ears? – A sound engineer’s ears are their greatest asset, the AudioLab Interactive will put yours through their paces.
Network shootout – the team will push networks to their limits and let you decide which is up to the task. Exclusive sneak peak of AES67 (X192), the 0 negative of audio networks.
Does network latency really cause problems? What happens when you put a drummer in a room with a completely digital system and a bunch of sound engineers. Can we mess up his performance?

Chris Toulmin, head of events, PLASA London 2013, commented: “It’s fantastic to see these pioneering audio companies embrace the ethos of AudioLab so enthusiastically. The Theatre will see the brightest and best audio engineers freely sharing their knowledge and experiences, and in the Interactive section we have some exciting experiments set up that are designed to test pro audio theory and really push the boundaries of what this equipment is capable of.”
