Symetrix DSPs for Austrian hospital complex

Landesklinikum Amstetten, a modern hospital complex encompassing multiple wings just 100km from Vienna, recently initiated an audio processing overhaul with Schneider Audio Concept (SAC).

A long-term AV collaborator of the hospital, SAC was engaged to devise a powerful but easily-operable audio processing and distribution infrastructure to cover two wings (one new, one legacy) and several seminar rooms, as well as provide monitoring and control of the EVAC and paging systems. As part of the project – installation for which was carried out by a locally-based electrical firm – SAC also specified new loudspeakers, amplifiers and wireless microphone systems.

Having specified Audinate’s Dante media networking technology on a host of recent projects to his satisfaction, SAC principal Christian Muhm opted to use Dante for flexible connectivity. A Dante-supporting processing hub was a necessity, which led Muhm towards a trio of Symetrix SymNet open architecture Dante-scalable DSPs.

“We have been working as a distributor for Symetrix for about seven years now, and the company’s Dante-capable DSPs have found their way into all manner of projects,” said Muhm. “In this case, I selected two SymNet Radius AEC units and one SymNet Edge, along with a single SymNet xIn 12 expander, all connected via fibre. Collectively, the Symetrix products enable the delivery of background music for the wards, monitor the EVAC/paging system, manage the seminar room audio and undertake room combining functions as required.”

The compact setup allows audio and data signals to be delivered anywhere in any configuration. SAC also provided loudspeakers and amplifiers from Dynacord and wireless microphones from Beyerdynamic for the project, which was completed late last year.
