June Digital Edition available now

Welcome to the June issue of Audio Media. This month we’re looking at what it takes to put on a successful theatre production including everything from the type of kit used to the process and creativity of theatre sound design.

Find out how the English Touring Theatre recreates the sonic characteristics of Shakespeare’s Globe theatre on the road in our feature on Howard Brenton’s Eternal Love, or get deep into the specifics of theatre sound design with the award-winning Paul Arditti (including a look at his work on the recent production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).

With the World Cup just around the corner there’s been a lot of talk about matches being broadcast in 4k, but what about the all-important audio aspect? This month our broadcast audio specialist Will Strauss turned his eye to the audio technology being used this year in Brazil to find out.

In the studio world, we caught the train down to Brighton during this year’s The Great Escape Festival to check out Brighton Electric studio and even had the chance to sit down with the facility’s senior engineer, Dan Swift, to talk about his recent work on British Sea Power’s LP Machineries of Joy.

Also in this issue, we chat with WSDG chief Jon Storyk about his work on Paul Epworth’s The Church studios, sit down with legendary mix engineer Gareth Jones (of Depeche Mode, Erasure, Grizzly Bear, and Interpol fame, to name a few), discuss bringing AAA game audio to mobile with Stafford Bawler, and focus in on the pro audio industry in Portugal.

Our regular technology focus looks at the current offering of large-format live consoles with a preface from console connoisseur and master mixer Dave Swallow.

As always, the June issue is loaded full of real world reviews. This month our trusted band of reviewers took on the new Soundcraft Vi3000 console, the Neumann TLM 107, Tascam’s DR-60D, Penteo 4 Pro, and the Lineage Preamp and 832c Filter Units from Harrison.
