Richmond Film Services bags first Audio-Technica AT5040s

Richmond Film Services (RFS) has become the first UK recipient of the brand new Audio-Technica AT5040 microphone.

The film and TV audio supplier purchased two units going by the strength of the launch activity alone, and before even trying the new model, as RFS managing director Nigel Woodford explained:

“We first learned about the AT5040 from an Audio-Technica email-shot following the microphone’s launch at AES in October,” he said, “and I was immediately interested by the four rectangular diaphragm design. I knew that there would be a great deal of interest in the microphone from our clients, so it wasn’t a difficult decision to invest in a pair. Richmond Film Services is increasingly active in the recording studio – as well as broadcast – hire market and I know many people will be keen to try the AT5040 in their search for the ultimate vocal mic.”

Woodford’s company has a long history with Audio-Technica – in addition to its extensive array of broadcast stereo mics it was also an early purchaser of Audio-Technica’s AT4080 and AT4081 phantom-powered ribbon microphones in 2010. “We weren’t at all concerned about making the investment in the new AT5040 before we’d seen the mic,” continued Woodford. “Our existing Audio-Technica stock is in very regular use and we know the level of quality to expect with this new high-end model. We’re very much looking forward to receiving the microphones in the next few weeks and getting them into clients’ hands.”

Harvey Roberts, Audio-Technica’s senior UK marketing manager, added: “We’re delighted that the UK’s first AT5040 microphones have been purchased by such a respected hire company as Richmond Film Services. The fact that RFS has decided to invest in the microphones sight unseen is a testament to Audio-Technica’s reputation for quality and innovative design and it’s good news that RFS clients will be able to experience and enjoy our flagship microphone.”

The AT5040 was only introduced to the UK trade last week, at BVE North in Manchester.
