The Space Project rebranded to Space Studios Manchester

The Space Project has now rebranded as Space Studios Manchester, a move that it says marks a new chapter in high end TV, Film and Commercial production in the region.

Currently home to five sound stages, the facility is currently undergoing a £14 million expansion, including a sixth stage that will measure 30,000 sqft, which will be fully operational before the end of the year, completing its first growth phase after originally opening in 2014.

Planning permission to add more than 90,000 sqft of new buildings to the 17-acre site in West Gorton, east Manchester was granted back in October 2016.

“We will continue to innovate and build on the quality of service we provide to our returning client base, whilst focusing on extending this to new national and international companies,” said Space Studios CEO Adrian Bleasdale (pictured).

With the biggest UK creative and tech centre outside of the capital, the region has an enviable track record in the delivery of high-end drama production in the UK. This genre has seen huge growth over the last five years with one in four dramas shot outside London shooting in Manchester, including the BBC’s award winning The A Word and ITV’s hit series Cold Feet from Space Studios Manchester.

Yet Space Studios is not the only place in the North West of England where work is currently underway on a major new film and TV production space, as our sister publication TVBEurope reported recently on plans for a new £35m ‘Pinewood of the North’ in Liverpool.
