Timeless TV explain how to learn from sport at Fast Turnaround TV 2012

UK-based tapeless workflow specialist, Timeline TV, will deliver a talk at this year’s inaugural Fast Turnaround TV event in March on how techniques deployed in sports production can be applied to general programming.

The demands of sports programming meant that sport was years ahead of other programming in adopting tapeless technology. Timeline TV—who have worked for all the UK’s networks—has now begun deploying this expertise to a wider range of programming. This includes news events, documentaries and live music events and has led to Timeline TV working on programmes as diverse as ITV’s Downton Abbey, Sky Sport’s dart’s coverage and BBC’s Wimbledon coverage.

“We’re applying the basic principles of sports production to general programming that needs to be high quality and fast turnaround,” explained Timeline TV’s Commercial Director, Stephen Davis (pictured right), who will be speaking at the conference. “We’re used to higher stress levels in sports production, and we’re able to bring the same level of energy.”

Fast Turnaround TV—which takes place on March 13th at London’s Soho Hotel—will also see Timeline TV’s Managing Director, Dan McDonnell (pictured left) speak on his experience.

Timeline TV began by simply providing EVS Broadcast Equipment tapeless server systems for sports and has since, according to Davis, “delivered the biggest EVS solutions outside EVS.”

Since then, the company has expanded rapidly. It now provides flyaway production units, RF and comms. Similarly, it now has two post-production facilities in Soho and Ealing in London and a third facility opening in Salford’s MediaCityUK in April 2012.

Timeline TV has recently set-up a new multi-channel playout centre for Racing UK—part of Racecourse Media Group—which goes on air from Ealing from February 28th. This new playout centre is a model of efficiency which demonstrates the benefits that can be gained from going tapeless in particular when using the IPDirector database—which, according to Timeline TV, they are also Europe’s leading supplier.

Fast Turnaround TV is organised by TVBEurope and is a trade conference providing those in the industry of live and as-live programming a more in-depth look at the production and strategy behind fast-turnaround TV encompassing large-scale productions across music, entertainment and news.

In addition to Timeless TV, Fast Turnaround TV will see ITV’s Andrew Ioannou talking about the 2011 X Factor final, NRK Norway talking on a record breaking broadcast and Mediaset launching of a 24/7 news channel.
