AC/DC studio Alberts to be demolished

Alberts recording studio in Neutral Bay, Sydney, where a number of Australian rock legends AC/DC’s albums were produced, is set to be demolished.

Also known for launching the careers of Australian acts The Angels, Rose Tattoo and earlier pioneers The Easybeats and Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, the studio is to be knocked down to make room for a new property development project.

Helm, the project’s developers, plan to replace the facility with a block of 23 apartments and shops to the value of $60 million over the course of two years. The name ‘Muse’ has been chosen for the development, which Helm general manager Mark Monk believes ‘is reflective of the building and the creative endeavours that have taken place in the building over the years.’

Moving from its original King Street, Netwon headquarters to Rangers Road in 1984, the studio is part of Albert Music, which has continued to find success in recent years through music rights and management deals with artists including AC/DC and Gotye.

The studio is due for demolition in early 2016.
