Air Studios up for sale

It has been announced that Air Entertainment Group has put Hampstead-based Air Studios on the market.

Established in 1969 by legendary Beatles producer Sir George Martin, Air Studios was bought by Richard Boote six years ago. However, since the purchase Boote has stated his intent to focus all of his efforts on the new businesses set up over the past two years by the Air Entertainment Group. Among these new businesses are Strongroom Alive Radio, the development of Apps and a digital distribution platform, which is soon to be launched. Furthermore, the Strongroom Bar and Kitchen are also to be developed in other locations.

The facility is utilised on a regular basis to record high-profile film scores, many of which feature frequently in the annual Oscars line-up, whilst its studios also host some of the world’s top recording artists, such as George Michael and Coldplay. Meanwhile, the facility’s main hall is often used for live concerts and TV recordings.

Boote, chairman of the Air Entertainment Group and founder of Strongroom, who acquired the studios in 2006 said, “Air Studios is a profitable part of our business and the decision to put Air on the market has been a difficult one. However, with the Group’s vision of content creation and a more public-facing focus, it was felt that the Studios would benefit longer term from having an owner that will continue its great recording heritage that keeps it on a par with Abbey Road.”
