Audio-Technica reintroduces AT4060a microphone

Audio-Technica‘s relaunched AT4060a tube microphone made its European debut at Prolight + Sound 2014.

The new cardioid condenser mic – originally released in the late ’90s and now back by popular demand from both retailers and end users – offers a warm, round vintage tone, along with a dynamic range that "far exceeds that of other tube microphones," according to A-T.

As well as having high SPL capabilities, the new model is designed to capture everything from the subtlest nuances of vocal and instrumental performances to high-powered guitar cabs. The new version also features a newly designed power supply unit (AT8560), engineered for improved performance and lower noise.

The AT4060a’s two-micron-thick, vapour-deposited gold diaphragms are made to go through a five-step ageing process to ensure constant, consistent performance, while the dual-diaphragm capsule design maintains precise polar pattern definition across the full frequency range of the mic.

Equipped with a hand-selected, individually tested and aged Sovtek 6922 tube, the AT4060 aims to deliver a classic tube design sound without compromising the specification standards required for highly demanding modern recording situations.

It comes with the AT8560 power supply, rack mount adaptors for the power supply, an AT8447 shock mount, ten-metre cable with six-pin XLR-type connectors for use between microphone and power supply and a protective mic carrying case.

The AT4060 will be available across Europe from next month with an RRP of £1,599.
