Mike Crossey adds Unity Audio Boulders to studio

UK producer Mike Crossey has added two Unity Audio three-way Boulders to his existing Unity Rock MKII upgraded two-way monitors.

Having been a long-time fan of The Rocks for a number of years, Crossey was eager to hear the larger three-way Boulder, which shares the same woofer as The Rock but employs two rather than one. Like The Rock, the cabinet is also a sealed design, although it uses twice the complement of custom E.A.R discrete amplifier modules as the smaller Rock model.

Furthermore, the Boulder has a unique mid/tweeter coaxial drive unit; a 5" flat aluminium mid range ring with the folded 50kHz ribbon tweeter in the middle designed to eliminate any phase discrepancies associated with conventional designs.

Crossey is currently enjoying success with tracks from Tribes, The View, Two Door Cinema Club and Jake Bugg. Previous production credits include Arctic Monkeys, Black Keys, Razorlight and The Enemy.

"Working with the boulders is like having an audio taskmaster on your shoulder making you work harder and do better. The brutally honest detail they reveal make you into a better engineer and mixer," said Mike Crossey.

Currently based at the Motor Museum studios in Liverpool Crossey will relocate to a London studio later this year.
